Privacy Policy
Last updated: 18 July 2026
Reference does not upload or store your collections, notes, tags, attached images or backup files on developer-operated servers. The app uses Google AdMob to display advertising, as explained below.
1 Information stored in the app
Reference allows you to create collections, items, notes, tags and attach images.
All of this information is stored locally on your device.
Reference does not upload, store or access your collections, notes, tags, images or other content on external servers. The developer cannot view, retrieve or manage this content.
2 Photos and files
Reference may request permission to access your photo library, camera or files so that you can:
- Attach images to items
- Import a backup
- Export a backup
These permissions are used only for features that you choose to use. Photos, files and backups are not uploaded to the developer.
3 Backups
Reference allows you to export and import backups using your device's file system.
Backup files are saved only to the location that you choose, such as your Files app or another storage provider.
If you choose to store a backup using iCloud Drive, Google Drive, Dropbox or another third-party service, that provider's own privacy policy and security practices will apply.
The developer does not receive a copy of your backup file.

We do not collect or store your:
- Collections
- Items
- Notes
- Tags
- Attached images
- Backup files
The app may store settings locally on your device, such as your theme preference, app preferences and premium entitlement status.
5 Advertising
Reference displays advertisements using Google AdMob.
Google AdMob may automatically collect and process limited technical information to provide, measure and improve advertisements. Depending on your device, settings, location and consent choices, this may include:
- Advertising identifiers
- Device and operating-system information
- IP address
- Approximate location derived from an IP address
- Advertising interaction and performance information
- Diagnostic information
This information is processed by Google in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy.
Where required by applicable law, Reference will request the appropriate consent before using data for personalised advertising.
6 Premium features
Reference offers optional premium features through in-app purchases.
Payments are processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play. The developer does not receive or store your full payment-card details.
The app and relevant store services may process limited purchase information required to verify that premium features have been purchased and should remain unlocked.
7 Security
Reference is designed to keep your personal content on your own device rather than on developer-operated servers.
No electronic device or storage method is completely secure. We recommend protecting your device with a passcode or biometric authentication and taking care when storing or sharing exported backup files.
8 Your choices and rights
Because your content is stored locally, you remain in control of it.
You can:
- Edit your content
- Delete your content
- Export your content
- Manage app permissions through your device settings
- Remove the app and its locally stored data
As the developer does not have access to your collections, notes or images, we cannot retrieve, modify or delete that content on your behalf.
9 Children's privacy
Reference is a general-purpose organisation app and is not specifically directed at children.
We do not knowingly collect user-created content from children because that content remains stored locally on the user's device and is not transmitted to us.
10 Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes to Reference, third-party services or legal requirements.
The latest version will be published on this page with a revised “Last updated” date.
